Coach’s take: Chance Robinson’s versatility makes him a special Miami commit

Miami recently landed a 2024 four-star receiver currently ranked as the No. 165 overall prospect in the On300 in Chance Robinson.

The Hurricanes also landed a 6-foot-1, 180-pound South Florida talent who wants to bring a championship back to Coral Gables when he committed at Miami’s spring game, and his high school coach thinks he’s a guy that can help UM do that.

Fort Lauderdale (Fla.) St. Thomas Aquinas head coach Roger Harriott reaped the benefits of Robinson’s talent last season as the four-star wideout hauled in 29 receptions for 540 yards and 13 touchdowns for the Raiders in 2024. But his success wasn’t based on overwhelming and unrefined talent.

“What makes Chance special is his versatility,” Harriott said. “His size, speed, strength, body control, and hand eye coordination makes him the complete package. He obviously possesses a dynamic skill set as a national prospect, but his blocking ability to dominate at the point of attack separates him from the typical wide receiver.”

Harriott’s take on Robinson’s game-changing abilities went hand-in-hand with what scouts fell in love with that ultimately landed him the highest rating of Miami’s current group of commits and more than two dozen offers. Robinson is also being heavily pursued by Auburn and Penn State, whom he set official visits to before committing to the Canes, and committed to Miami over programs like Alabama, Georgia, Florida, Florida State and LSU.

But that’s not the only thing that makes him special. He’s also a relentless competitor determined to win – something we’ve seen from him time and time again on his South Florida Express 7-on-7 team.

“Chance is a fierce competitor on the field with an appetite for winning,” Harriott said. “As a person, he goes about his business in a professional manner with positive leadership attributes.”

CaneSport’s Take

Robinson will have plenty of opportunities to succeed at Miami given his frame, ability and relentlessness, and he’s positioned to have another substantial year at St. Thomas for his senior season.

He’ll also take official visits to Miami, Penn State and Auburn this summer, although he has said he is locked in on the Hurricanes. Watch for Miami to continue to aggressively recruit Robinson despite already having committed to the Canes.
