One day after claiming its 19th Atlantic Coast Conference championship, the Florida State softball team on Sunday evening learned its seeding and opponents for the opening round of the NCAA Tournament.
FSU was selected as the No. 3 national seed, and the Seminoles will host South Carolina, UCF and Marist in the NCAA Tallahassee Regional from May 19-21.
The Seminoles will face Marist in the opening round, while the Gamecocks and Knights will square off in the other opener. Times and television information were not immediately available.
Florida State enters the postseason with a 50-8 record and a 16-game winning streak.
UCF went 39-19 this season with a 15-3 mark in the American Athletic Conference. The Knights cruised to the AAC championship by sweeping Memphis, USF and Tulsa by a combined margin of 18-5.
South Carolina went 37-20 this season and 9-15 in the Southeastern Conference. The Gamecocks did reach the championship game of the SEC Tournament, though, by knocking off Texas A&M, Georgia and Auburn in a series of one-run games, but they fell to Tennessee in the title round, 3-1.
Marist (29-28, 12-8) reached the NCAA Tournament by winning the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference tournament. The Red Foxes stunned No. 1 seed Canisius in back-to-back games to win the MAAC title.
The Tallahassee Regional is paired with the Athens, Ga., Regional, which will be hosted by No. 14 Georgia and feature Virginia Tech, Boston University and North Carolina Central. The host Bulldogs are 39-13 with a 16-7 mark in the SEC.
Tickets for the Tallahassee Regional will go on sale Monday at noon at Seminoles.com.
