When Kaleb Brown entered the transfer portal, his first stop as he began looking for a new home was the University of Iowa. As it turned out, all the former four star wide receiver needed to see was the Hawkeye football program before making his college choice.
“What impressed me about Iowa was the personal connection between the players and the coaches. I felt like I was part of the Iowa family right away,” Brown said. “They checked all the boxes that I was looking for in a new home.”
Brown spent his first year in college at Ohio State. In his first year, he caught one pass for five yards. Ironically that one catch was against Iowa. After spring ball in Columbus, Brown decided to enter the transfer portal and the Hawkeyes were quick to get involved with his recruitment.
The pitch from the Hawkeye coaches was that he would be a big part of the offense and they would use his speed to make plays.
“The coaches said that with my speed I could take the top off the defenses. I am able to play both inside and outside, so I will be looking to learn all the receiver positions. They think that I be what they need on offense.”
During his visit, Brown was hosted by the new Hawkeye quarterback, Cade McNamara. The pair really hit it off and that helped to seal the deal.
“Cade was great!” Brown said. “He’s a super down to earth guy. He took great care of me and we built a really good relationship in a couple of days.”
The duo also discussed the other interesting topic, which is the fact that they were both on opposite side of one of the most heated rivalries in all of college football. McNamara came to Iowa from Michigan and Brown from Ohio State.
“It’s pretty coincidental that we both came from that rivalry,” he said. “We both laughed about that a little bit, but now it’s all about the Hawkeyes and getting to the Big Ten Championship.”
Brown says he plans to arrive on June 5th and will start workouts with his teammates. In addition to beginning workouts, he is also looking forward to joining the Iowa Swarm Collective.
