Kentucky was fortunate the last two seasons to have Will Levis as their QB1. The quarterback out of Connecticut put up numbers during his time in Lexington and led the Wildcats to several wins. Now, that production has led to a very high evaluation in the upcoming NFL Draft.
With his draft process started and the combine complete, the next step for Levis is his Pro Day at Kentucky this morning. Ahead of that evaluation, Mark Stoops spoke with Jordan Rodgers on the SEC Network’s broadcast about his quarterback. He had nothing but praise for Levis, what he has meant to UK, and what he can be as he continues to take the next steps toward his pro career.
“We can’t say enough good things about Will and how proud we are of him,” Stoops said. “He came in and he earned his way with this team. But he did it in a very quick fashion. He did it very quickly, came in, and had great success his first year. Things happened a year ago but no excuses here. It is what it is.”
“Will is still a fantastic player. You saw what we were like when we didn’t have him in a few games,” said Stoops. “He always gives you a chance, he’s super competitive. The guys rally around him. I’m just excited to see him perform here today and just let it go, let it rip. There’s a lot of good football players out there that you guys have been covering. We’re just glad to showcase one of ours and all the guys who are working today.”
Levis threw for 5,232 yards, 43 touchdowns, and 23 interceptions on a 65.7% completion rate during his two seasons as a Wildcat. While injuries affected his mobility in 2022, it is still a very big part of his game. He got to show that in 2021 with 376 rushing yards and nine touchdowns on the ground. With those statistics, he led Kentucky to an 18-6 record in his starts.
During the combine in Indianapolis, Levis did not do any of the tests besides the vertical jump and the broad jump. However, he did throw inside Lucas Oil Stadium and showed his self-proclaimed ‘cannon’ of an arm off. Now, inside Nutter Fieldhouse at UK, a group of NFL scouts is eagerly waiting to watch him show off his skillset again.
There are still plenty of questions about Levis when it comes to nitpicking him in comparison to the other quarterbacks in this draft. He has provided several quality answers to them already and will now look to do so again once he takes the field here soon during Kentucky’s Pro Day.
