Michigan State offered class of 2025 running back Iverson Howard of Gaithersburg (MD) Quince Orchard School on April 22. The 5-foot-10, 180-pound running back holds other offers from Penn State, Wisconsin, Mississippi, Michigan, and more. He is ranked a three-star, the No. 312 overall recruit, the No. 26 running back, and the No. 11 recruit in Maryland by the 2025 On3 Industry Rankings. On3.com ranks Howard a four-star, the No. 122 overall recruit, the No. 11 running back, and the No. 4 recruit in Maryland.
Howard was offered by Michigan State running backs coach Effrem Reed, who had been in touch with the running back once before.
“I’ve talked over the phone with him once before the offer and I plan on trying to visit him during May,” Howard told SpartanMag.com. “He did not break down every detail (of my game) but I could tell how much he liked me as a back overall.”
“I like how I could tell he was speaking nothing but the truth about the program,” Howard said. “He was straight forward with everything about the running backs.”
A major reason for the Michigan State offer catching his eye, is current NFL rising star Kenneth Walker, who spent the 2021 season in East Lansing leading the Spartans to an 11-2 season.
“It means a lot knowing a RB I watch almost everyday before a game went there and it really makes me look more into the program,” Howard said. “I’ve been watching his highlights since last year and I model some of my game of him.”
Howard himself is known for big plays on the field, earning himself the nickname “Rocket”. Quince Orchard won its second consecutive state championship in 2022. Howard finished the year with 1,545 yards and 19 touchdowns on the season.
“I didn’t get the nickname Rocket for no reason,” Howard laughed. “I believe I am a running back who can really surprise defenders with my speed and strength, I am very explosive coming out of the backfield and can also make a move on the defender.”
