The San Francisco 49ers drafted former Michigan wide receiver Ronnie Bell in the seventh round last month. He’ll team up with kicker Jake Moody, a U-M legend, and former Wolverine cornerback Ambry Thomas, who’s entering his third season in the NFL.
“I haven’t talked to him much about the Bay, but he was one of the first ones to call me up once I was drafted,” Bell said. “Another familiar face is something that is definitely warm, to come to. Especially [because] I’ve never been out here before. He’ll definitely be one that I’ll kinda be in his pocket to learn the ways over here.
Bell and Thomas had their battles during Michigan practices, too.
“Competitive. As a freshman, and he was a sophomore, he was one of the first guys that would kinda trash talk to me. Definitely competitive, so I’m excited to get back out there with him and do that with him.”
There’s another Michigan connection taking place in the pros. The Atlanta Dream took former U-M forward Naz Hillmon last season and former U-M guard Leigha Brown this year. The two are playing together, and Brown recently dished a no-look pass to Hillmon, who finished the layup.
On3’s Jamie Shaw listed Michigan basketball as one of the biggest “losers” of the transfer portal so far this offseason.
Here’s what Shaw had to say: Michigan is bringing in a fine class from the portal. However, losing Hunter Dickinson was a major blow. He was a featured member of the team and his production will be tough to replace. Also, the way Dickinson left — very vocal and high profile. Caleb Love could soften the blow, but there are rumors floating about a possible de-commitment. Love has since come out to say rumors are unfounded.
Here are some highlights for Michigan senior wide receiver Roman Wilson, who’s expected to have a big season for the Wolverines.
Quote Of The Day
“Just seeing him has been cool. With time, you get more comfortable with stuff, you learn more. With him, I feel like he’s just growing and continuing to grow with football and knowing what he wants to do. He’s comfortable, he’s put on weight, he seems like he’s going in the right direction to be where he wants to be. That plays a part in the team. We’re all going in that direction. I think this year should be good.”
