Buckeyes expecting to have eight home games in 2024

Ohio State is now expecting to have eight home games in 2024. The school announced Wednesday that the Buckeyes’ final non-conference addition for next year is Marshall.

Ohio State will play Southern Miss on Aug. 31, Western Michigan on Sept. 7 and Marshall on Sept. 21 — all at home.

Ohio State was originally scheduled to meet Washington on the road in 2024 for the first leg of a home-and-home, but that series was canceled in February. Instead of heading to Seattle to face a Power Five foe, the Buckeyes are hosting another Group of Five program, the Sun Belt’s Thundering Herd.

Ohio State will likely go from having an even split of six home games and six road games in 2023 to having eight home games in 2024, just like it had this past season.

The Buckeyes won’t know for sure until the Big Ten releases its 2024 schedule. The league is expected to reveal those details in October.

The 2024 season is especially significant because it’s the first year USC and UCLA will be part of the Big Ten. It’s also the first year the College Football Playoff will include 12 teams.

Ohio State also announced a pair of non-conference games for the 2029 season Wednesday. The Buckeyes will be hosting Nevada on Sept. 1, 2029 and Charlotte on Sept. 8, 2029. Ohio State has never faced off against either Nevada or Charlotte.

Addition of Tywone Malone highlights shift in Buckeyes transfer portal philosophy

Former Ole Miss defensive tackle Tywone Malone committed to Ohio State Tuesday. Malone started his Rebels career as a dual-sport athlete. He won the College World Series with Ole Miss last year. But now he’s making the move to Columbus with an eye toward propelling his football career. Ohio State was looking for depth on the defensive interior, and Malone fits the bill.

The former four-star Bergen Catholic prospect — ranked No. 1 among all New Jersey recruits in the 2021 cycle, according to On3 — has potential to be more than just a rotational piece, too.

The Lettermen Row crew of Spencer Holbrook, Tim May and Andy Backstrom explained why on the latest Offseason Report, presented by Byers Auto. You can check it out here or below:
