The Texas Longhorns staff is out and about in the states of Texas, Louisiana, Alabama, Georgia, New Jersey and more this week with the spring evaluation period underway.
Along with the staff on the road, 2024 prospects are also on the road making visits around spring games. The Longhorns are set to host a 2024 visitor this weekend, and it’s not a name familiar to the Longhorns fan base yet.
Inside Texas gives the latest on the weekend visitor and more with some Wednesday lunchtime intel.
Weekend visitor on deck
There will still be a handful of prospects stopping through Austin to visit Texas when on the road this month. One of those this weekend is Sierra Canyon IOL Eugene Brooks. This will be the first time the Texas staff has spent time with the 6-foot-5, 310-pounder. Texas offensive line coach Kyle Flood is expected by Sierra Canyon High next week while in Southern California to see Brandon Baker and DeAndre Carter. Oregon, USC and Georgia are showing the most interest right now.
News and notes
Offensive line coach Kyle Flood was by San Marcos High Monday according to a source close to the San Marcos program. Texas will host 6-foot-7, 285-pound athletic offensive tackle Ory Williams for an official visit June 23-25. LSU, where the father and other family members are from, is very much a threat to Texas headed into June visits. Georgia is also lurking. Oregon would like to make a run too. As would USC.
Texas defensive backs coach Terry Joseph is scheduled to see On3 Industry Ranking 5-star corner Kobe Black Thursday. The Longhorns are working to get a June 23-25 official visit set up with Black, who was at LSU last weekend. Texas, Texas A&M, LSU, Alabama, Ohio State, USC, Oregon and Oklahoma State are all expected by the school this week, and next week.
Tight end target Ryner Swanson tells IT that he is talking to Texas and Oregon about June 2-3 weekend for an official visit. The reason the 6-foot-4, 230-pounder is looking at the first weekend in June is the family is taking a two week vacation to Europe for two weeks in June, knocking out at least two possible official visit weekends.
Offensive line coach Kyle Flood was by Walton High in Marietta, Ga. Tuesday to see On3 Industry Ranking 4-star OT Daniel Calhoun. Calhoun took in the Texas spring game last weekend, and will be in Tuscaloosa for A-Day this weekend. The Longhorns are very much in the fight here with Georgia and Alabama. Tennessee is the fourth June official visit.
Flood is in the Garden State today to see On3 Industry ranking 4-star OT Nyier Daniels. The 6-foot-7, 360-pounder is one of the tougher reads for college coaches in the 2024 cycle. Texas knows they have a realistic shot, and will receive a June 23-25 official visit. Penn State is also mentioned frequently.
Texas staff members are expected by IMG Academy in the next week or two. Longhorns 2024 targets Jerrick Gibson and Jayden Jackson will get Tashard Choice and Bo Davis to campus. Gibson remains a Texas lean headed into June official visits. The 6-foot-2, 300-pound Jackson is likely to make a June 16-18 official visit. Ohio State and Miami are the main competition, currently.
